The D.TOX Program Kit Story

Life Time Fitness Dietitians set out to design a program and products that help people reset nutrition habits and jumpstart weight loss or fat loss – a 14-day system to deliver lasting results; D.TOX® is that system.

Every day, we all encounter internal and external sources of potentially harmful chemical compounds. Some we produce through strenuous exercise and everyday metabolism, but most are present in our personal care products, processed foods, household cleaners, building materials, food and beverage containers, in the air we breathe, and perhaps even our drinking water.

Many of these chemical toxins are known metabolic disruptors, even at normal everyday exposure levels.* Our bodies naturally try to protect us from such harmful effects by storing toxic elements in our body fat or neutralizing and eliminating through natural elimination processes.

Unfortunately, without proper nourishment – adequate protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other botanical compounds.

Protein Blend (Pea Protein Isolate & Rice Protein) Excellent source of easily digestible essential and branched-chain amino acids from plant-based sources. Pea protein contains all nine essential amino acids and all three branched-chain amino acids, but is relatively low in methionine. Rice protein is blended in to optimize methionine levels and formulate an overall amino acid profile similar to whey protein. Provides a tasty and convenient way to support protein adequacy for lean muscle growth/maintenance, immune system function, satiety/appetite control, bone health, and healthy blood pressure.
Glycine An amino acid that is important for building and maintaining lean tissue, hormones and enzymes. It's also important for antioxidant capacity since it's one of the components of our 'master antioxidant' glutathione, which naturally declines as we age. Additionally, glycine is crucial for collagen formation and may also support restful sleep.
Medium Chain Triglycerides An easily digestible form of fat coconut and palm kernel oil that has been shown to be absorbed and utilized for energy more readily than longer chain dietary fats. The unique properties may help with weight loss through a number of mechanisms including appetite regulation/satiety, reduced fat storage, thermogenic properties and ability to support ketone production in low-calorie/low-carbohydrate diet periods.
L-Glutamine A conditionally-essential amino acid helpful for immune system function and digestive health.
L-Lysine An essential amino acid that must be obtained from diet or supplements to support normal protein synthesis, collagen formation, and tissue repair.
Curcumin Phytosome (Curcuma longa extract (root) / phosphatidylcholine complex) A standardized, patented botanical extract complexed with phosphatidylcholine to optimize absorption of the bioactive curcuminoids, which act to modulate inflammation response and support healthy liver, gut, joints and cardiovascular systems.
Quercetein Phytosome  A botanical flavonoid extract known to support antioxidant capacity by scavenging free radicals, and may have a role in supporting glutathione levels, which are important for detoxification processes. The extract is complexed with phosphatidylcholine to promote absorption.
Taurine A conditionally-essential, sulfur-rich amino acid used for building and maintaining proteins (including lean tissue and enzymes). It's particularly important for bile production and as antioxidant.
Methyl Sulfonyl Methane (MSM) A sulfur-rich compound which has helpful antioxidant characteristics and supports glutathione levels. It also has roles in modulating inflammatory response related to allergic reactions.
Grape Seed Phytosome A potent antioxidant and rich source of proanthycyanidins helpful for supporting normal blood flow, inflammation response and liver enzyme function. The grape seed extract is complexed with phosphatidylcholine to promote absorption.

Detox benefits are varied and significant - let's look at the top six advantages detoxification can offer:

Enhanced Fat Loss

Toxins are fat-loving, which means they seek out fat cells in which to reside. This is a common reason people struggle with losing weight: more body fat often means a higher toxin load.  The body to some degree will resist losing fat to protect itself against the freeing of these poisons. When we lose weight, the toxins are released from our fat into our bloodstream and when we jump into a quick and/or extreme weight loss program (>2 pounds weight loss per week), we in essence “dump” the toxins into our blood very quickly, leaving our detoxification processes overwhelmed. The effect can leave us feeling pretty miserable.

Improved Skin Clarity

Have you ever noticed the skin of someone who just completed a detox program? Their skin appears smooth and actually “glows.” The skin is our largest organ, and it acts as a second kidney, removing toxins through sweat.  When you further support your skin through sauna, hydrotherapy (cycling between hot and cold water in the shower) and skin brushing, it’s amazing how clear and radiant your skin can become!

Better Sleep

Detoxification programs support sleep by eliminating toxic substances that actually keep you awake, such as caffeine, sugar, tobacco and alcohol. Although alcohol acts as an initial sedative and helps you fall asleep, it will wake you up immediately once it wears off a couple hours later.

More Energy

Detoxification programs boost energy by focusing on what you eat and drink and encouraging only healthy, clean sources of nourishment and hydration. Your body uses the food you give it as fuel. Additionally, detoxification programs emphasize drinking enough filtered water. By properly hydrating, the body has an easier time transporting oxygen and nutrients – and therefore energy – through a well-hydrated blood system to the cells that require them for optimum functioning.

Improved Digestive Function

Whether you suffer from constipation, bloating, gas, heartburn, or abdominal pain, a detoxification program can help. First off, the intestinal tract has initial contact with the majority of toxins entering our bodies through food, beverages and medications. It actually provides a physical barrier of entry for toxins into the body - but only if our digestive system is healthy.  The second way detoxification programs can improve digestive function is by removing food culprits that tend to cause inflammation (and, therefore, the above digestive complaints) in the body: gluten, cow dairy, eggs, soy, peanut, corn and sugar.
Many of our D.TOX participants rave about their improved digestive function after the 14-day program.

Improved Cognitive Function and Mood

There’s a direct connection between digestive and cognitive health. You may have heard it called the “gut-brain axis.” An inflamed gut contributes to an inflamed brain, affecting both systems’ functioning.
Once you improve your digestive function, as explained above, you tend to notice your mind getting clearer, more focused and your mood more stable. It's amazing to me how we can truly live better when we live more healthily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this product gluten-free?

Yes. No gluten-containing ingredients are used in the formula, and every lot is tested to confirm it’s below 20ppm gluten.

Can I take the Multivitamins all at once, rather than three in the morning and three in the evening?

We created the formula to support the way your brain and body change throughout the day. If you forget to take your AM dose earlier in the day, you can take it with your PM dose. However, we recommend separating them most of the time.

Is this product vegan?

Yes, it’s verified vegan by Vegan Action (Vegan.org)

Can I use the D.TOX kit products while pregnant or nursing?

No, these products are not recommended for pregnant or nursing women. Some of the botanical extracts and therapeutic nutrients have not been studied extensively for safety in pregnant or nursing populations. Consult your doctor regarding any supplement questions if you are pregnant, nursing, or have other medical conditions you are managing or being treated for.

What’s in the ‘Natural Flavors’?

Water or ethanol extracts of flavors from natural plant sources (such as vanilla bean).

How much protein should I consume?

: Be sure to consult your doctor before making any significant change to diet or supplementation. For healthy individuals engaged in resistance training programs, a good estimate for protein needs is 1g of protein per pound of goal or ideal body weight per day, assuming they do not have kidney disease or other medical conditions that would warrant protein restrictions. For more on protein recommendations, read our post on high-protein diets.

Why is the sodium content higher than whey proteins?

Peas are naturally high in sodium, and some salt is used as part of the natural flavoring system.
